Let’s be honest– occasionally we all tend to judge people. Hairstyles, clothing, life choices, relationships…
Often, we’ll catch ourselves and say, “Geez, what’s wrong with me?! I shouldn’t judge this or that about a friend, colleague, or stranger! I don’t want to be that type of person.” Which is, when you think about it, a judgement in itself.
Rationally, it makes no sense. We criticize ourselves for judging someone else, in hopes to become a better person? I am not going to address self-acceptance right now, but what I will declare LOUD and CLEAR is that I believe judging isn’t evil. In fact, it’s natural. It is a safety tool that we (as humans) have overworked that is simply out of balance. For example, from a young age some of us may have been raised in a household where we needed to keep things in check to avoid detrimental consequences – we needed to be hyper vigilant to what was going on, so the judging instinct became a survival tool.
Whether the reflex was a safety mechanism or not, judging is an important strategy in our lives. I am sure you can think of scenarios when it was necessary and important for you to judge if something was safe or good for you. Like, for example, when I thought the right judgement was to trust a new hairstylist who suggested frosted grey highlights in my dark brown hair… (oops..)
The judging reflex is a vital strategy to our well-being, but it is our job to keep it in balance. Think of it as an extremely caring friend who you wouldn’t chastise for being exuberantly helpful. You would kindly say to this dear person, “Gosh that is so thoughtful of you to offer your insights on this, but I have it under control.” These gentle words of understanding reflect the type of verbal talk that you need to give to yourself when you find your judging reflex is over-activated.
Oh, and by the way, if you say these kind words to yourself while Tapping on your Meridian points you will likely achieve more peace, more acceptance of yourself, and less judgement. 🙂 Try it out with the Tapping for Judgement Script HERE.
